WhatsApp has introduced new monetization opportunities for businesses and content creators, now available directly through the “Updates” tab. The update is part of Meta’s strategy to create more revenue streams through its messaging apps.
✅ New features only in the “Updates” section:
WhatsApp has clarified that all these new features have been introduced only for Status and Channels in the Updates tab, so that users’ personal chats, groups, and calls will not be affected.
🌟 Featured Features:
- Channel Subscription:
Now users will be able to financially support their favorite creators through subscriptions. In return, they will receive special and exclusive content that will not be available to general users.
- Promoted Channels:
New and small businesses or creators can now promote their channels in the “Directory” to reach more users. This feature will be especially helpful for those who want to build their brand.
3. Ads in Status:
WhatsApp has allowed ads in its Status section for the first time. Now business owners can promote their products or services in Status to get more engagement and increase conversions through direct chat.
🔒 Privacy Assurance:
WhatsApp has clarified its privacy policy, saying that ads will be based only on limited information, such as the user’s language, location, and activity within the Updates tab.
If a user links their WhatsApp profile to Meta (i.e. Facebook or Instagram), they may also be shown personalized ads based on their activity there.
Result:
These new WhatsApp monetization features are a golden opportunity for creators and small businesses. They will not only provide a new source of revenue, but will also help transform WhatsApp into a complete marketing and communication platform — that too with complete privacy protection.
