How Azerbaijan Is Leading a Modern Beauty Renaissance in Islamabad Through Transformative Projects

Azerbaijan has taken a positive step in support of Pakistan to beautify Islamabad. Thus, Azerbaijan has demonstrated fraternal cooperation with Pakistan. The Azerbaijani government is assisting in the implementation of a major beautification project aimed at transforming Islamabad into a modern and attractive city, while preserving its natural and cultural beauty.Azerbaijan is doing all this with its own resources.

An official at the Azerbaijani embassy in Islamabad described the ongoing changes as the city’s “entry into a modern renaissance,” inspired by the aesthetic standards of Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku.

From Baku to Islamabad: A Shared Vision

The initiative began shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Baku in 2023, where he was amazed by the magnificent landscaping and urban beauty in Azerbaijan. He then wanted the same beauty to be brought to Islamabad, so he requested Baku for help. The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, responded warmly to the request and directed the relevant authorities in Baku to initiate full cooperation.

Soon, a team of Azerbaijani experts visited Islamabad, inspected potential locations, and then returned home for detailed planning. Today, those projects are being implemented by Pakistani contractors under the guidance of Azerbaijani experts.

Azerbaijan is leading a beauty renaissance in Pakistan’s capital

Transformation of roads, parks and cultural heritage sites Significant transformations are being made at several key locations, including:

• Srinagar Highway (25.5 km, from Airport to Murree Road)

• Saidpur Village – Complete improvement with modern communication and water system

• Melody Food Park – Redesigned on the lines of Baku’s Nizami Street • CDA Nursery on Park Road

• Preparation of lush landscaping around Jinnah Convention Centre

Citizens are already feeling the effects of the project. “We are grateful to Azerbaijan. The work done around Melody Market has really added beauty to our city,” said local resident Mehboob Chaudhry. Another citizen, Zakir Hussain, expressed optimism about the city’s future beauty, noting the new look of the Srinagar Highway.

Combining international expertise and local capabilities

Collaborative and Cultural Approach What makes this effort even more remarkable is its collaborative spirit. Although the design is being led by Azerbaijani experts, most of the labor and materials are local—including:

High-quality Pakistani marble

Travertine stone

Wood

The Baku Maintenance Service is carefully reviewing all practical steps, including valuable input from Pakistani experts. Importantly, the Azerbaijani teams are determined to maintain Islamabad’s local identity, even as they modernize its infrastructure.

This partnership is a great example of how diplomatic relations can translate into practical improvements, and make Islamabad a city that represents both tradition and modern beauty — thanks to Azeri generosity and a shared cultural vision.
